Need help managing your WordPress website?

Is your site built with WordPress? Not sure about updating plugins and WordPress itself? Well, site management might be what you need. Read on to discover why.

I'm not talking about the WordPress.com system (where they host and manage sites) but instead about self-hosted websites (i.e where you buy web space from a hosting company to host your site).

WordPress is a fantastic system that makes it easy to add and edit content on your site. The core system and an extensive ecosystem of third party plugins provides a wide range of functionality. It's great! Yet, it does require some maintenance for a number of reasons:

  1. Updates: WordPress has an auto update mechanism for minor (small incremental) version updates but larger updates need to be done manually from the WordPress admin panel.
  2. Back-ups: Do you back-up your site and its files? You might assume that your web host will do this but unless it's specifically in your agreement with them, they won't do it. Granted, they may keep their own back-ups but that's for their own systems and your website won't be their highest priority if they have problems.
  3. Plug-ins need to be updated regularly. Each update may include new functionality, security enhancements and code fixes. It's best to keep on top of these.

It's easy to forget about updating any site but a site management plan can cover all the above. You edit and change the site content, for example add blog posts, images and videos, and I'll keep the site updated and back-up the site whenever there is an update. Or, I can set-up an automatic back-up plan for you.
