Working with WordPress

CVW Web Design has been doing more work with WordPress recently and we'll be setting up some additional demo sites for prospective clients over the next week or so. For the uninitiated, WordPress is a free, content management system (CMS) for websites. That means that you can login and manage your website's pages and many of the website's functions from a relatively easy-to-use control panel.

There's more to it than that but with a bit of help and time for familiarisation with the WordPress system, it should be possible for most people to manage their sites quickly and easily.

One of the reasons that many people choose WordPress is that it comes with a theme system so that a site's design and layout can be changed very quickly. The downside of this is that you might end up with a website that looks exactly the same as someone else's! Not always a problem but it's better in many cases if the theme is carefully chosen and customised based on your requirements. Of course, as a web design and development freelancer, I would say that, wouldn't I?! However, I strongly believe that you will get better results from your website if that is the case!

One final point about WordPress. It's a great system and third party development of plugins and themes is extensive. Woo hoo! But..... it's also a good idea to check plugins and themes. For example, running PageSpeed tests on the final site and on themes before you buy them is always beneficial.

If you need help or advice and consultancy about WordPress just get in touch. We'll try and help.
