Latest work: Rosebank House website

  • The Project: A redesign of the Rosebank House website
  • What I Did: Web development and coding. Installation of WordPress content management system.
  • Result: The website was launched in April 2017.

Rosebank House is a Bed and Breakfast guest house in Porlock, Somerset. It's a fabulous place for a weekend break in a lovely village with some stunning countryside nearby. The old website was functional but slightly dated and it wasn't very usable on mobile devices like smartphones. The current owners, Chris and Sue, took over the business in 2016 and wanted a fresh start for the site.

Design

The website brief was to provide a more modern website with a clean design within a moderate budget. There were some minor changes needed to the logo but otherwise the current branding was retained.

I decided to customise a theme built on the Genesis WordPress framework. This was ideal because it provides a lot of flexibility with, in particular, the home page layout. Whilst there isn't a lot of content, I suggested that imagery had to be improved over the older site and Chris and Sue hired a professional photographer to take new photos.

Additionally, I wanted to make sure the the new site had an easy way to book rooms. So, each page has a prominent call-to-action and a Book Online link in the main site menu. This links through to a third party booking service.

Rosebank House has some great reviews/comments on sites like Trip Advisor so I added these in a prominent position in the site header section. This is editable by Chris and Sue.

Result

I launched the site in April 2017 and there has been some great feedback so far. Chris and Sue are very pleased with their new site.
